Presence Fields
The concept of Presence Field as laid out by Michael Benedikt in his book, "Architecture Beyond Experience" is an architectural documentation methodology for the social use of space. It is a field between individuals that is intangible to the human eye and must therefor be drawn diagrammatically through the use of programmatic tools. The field above is a portrayal of the 2010 MOMA exhibit and film, “The Artist is Present” featuring Marina Abramović. The field shows the premier space from the exhibit where Abramović related to volunteers nonverbally for an extended period of time in the middle of a large room surrounded by spectators. The presence field describes the situation relationally as an environment that is both heavily emotionally charged and intensely focused.
